This yoga retreat offers a potent blend of 5 hours daily yoga & meditation practice, delicious healthy eating at the Tamarind Springs Slow Food Café and a selection of complimentary massage treatments at one of Asia's premier Day Spas. As a result of this full immersion experience, dormant energies will awaken and help you tap your full potential.
Whether you are a complete novice or more seasoned yoga practitioner, this 5-day yoga retreat is a great opportunity to learn and experience what traditional Hatha- and Kundalini-Yoga is all about. This variety of Tantric or Agama Yoga differs from many of the dynamic, aerobic-like modern forms of "Yoga" in that it works on the circulation of energy in the body, the awareness of energies and the chakras, and thus the ability to feel, move and control energy within oneself is being trained. It is based on the ancient shastras (scriptures) and stresses the importance of proper mental focus during the yoga practice. This multidimensional approach to the yoga practice generates a harmonious development in the practitioner, from physical and energy development to emotional, mental, and last but not least spiritual development. The emphasis is on the practice, but explanations & theory will be given to assure a correct understanding of the underlying mechanics at work.
As is customary with Asian Yoga Holidays retreats, group size is limited to 12 people only. We like to keep our retreats personal and ensure that each participant gets sufficient individual attention both on and off the yoga mat.

About Tamarind Springs
Tamarind Springs on Koh Samui is inspired by its superb location, bordering Lamai’s tropical forest interior, where lush coconut groves gently slope into a valley of huge granite boulders. Built out of love and respect for Koh Samui’s unique landscape, every effort has been made to fluidly integrate all man-made structures of this serene and exclusive Samui spa into Lamai’s indigenous surroundings. Following the paths between giant granite outcrops, waterfalls and rock pools at Tamarind Springs Forest Spa, the first dedicated Samui Day Spa, one feels as if one enters a realm of peace – a shift away from the apparent urgency of one’s to-do-list into a magic space where time takes on a different dimension.

About Tamarind Springs Villas
All of Tamarind Springs’ beautifully designed villas blend elegantly into the lush tropical garden surroundings. All villas are built with the concept of natural luxury in mind and are designed in a way that invites nature in. Sometimes nature accepts the invitation – the majority of animals are entirely harmless, and to most guests the occasional lizard, frog, cicada or gecko is an appealing feature. For the participants of this Yoga Retreat five different villas have been selected. For details and photos, please see the image gallery above.
About Tamarind Springs Slow Food Spa Café
Since opening in 1998 as Koh Samui’s first dedicated Day Spa, Tamarind Springs has continuously enhanced its range of services. With the addition of a dedicated health food restaurant to the existing Day Spa and Massage Academy operation, the Tamarind Springs experience has become more complete and special than ever before.
On Samui, restaurants serving truly healthy, nutritious food free of chemical residues are in short supply. At Tamarind Springs Spa Café a set of guidelines has been established to guarantee that the food served is of the highest possible quality:
The aim is to go back to the roots of original Thai Cuisine, which in its unadulterated form is very nutritious and healthy. Part of the overall concept of Thai food preparation also is that no matter what, it must be tasty.
| |
• |
The menu is largely vegetarian. |
| |
• |
All ingredients are guaranteed free of MSG and other taste enhancement agents. |
| |
• |
Use of salt and sugar is kept to a minimum. Either unrefined cane or palm sugar or wild honey (100% organic) is being used. |
| |
• |
Vegetables and fruit are as much as possible purchased locally from small producers; they are seasonal, fresh and free of chemical residues. |
| |
• |
Seafood is guaranteed “food from the sea”, and NOT farmed “sea food”. |
| |
• |
Chicken meat is exclusively from free-range formerly happy chickens. |
| |
• |
Only pure cold pressed oils are used in cooking and preparation of the dishes. |
| |
• |
There are many wheat-free dishes available for persons with related dietary allergies. |

An accomplished cross-country skier in his youth, Swiss Virgo Julien came upon the spiritual path eight years ago after lots of adventure in his early 20s. He traveled extensively throughout Central and South America while enrolled in university, and spent a good amount of his time exploring our amazing planet, immersing himself in unknown cultures and meeting its peoples and ways of lives.
In February, 2001, a life-changing and near-fatal accident on a small paradise island in Brazil kindled his interest in the mysteries and spiritual traditions of the East. He soon embarked on his first trip to Asia, where he did his first meditation retreat at a Thai forest monastery. A few months later Julien found himself in Swami Vivekananda Saraswati's First Month Intensive at
Agama Yoga in Rishikesh, which radically revolutionized his outlook on life. The Truths set forth by this passionate teacher deeply touched him, and a feeling that "this was it" began to unfold.
However, he did not drop out all at once. He returned to Switzerland for another year to earn his Masters degree in Finance & Economics from the University of St. Gallen (HSG). He wrote his master's thesis on the dollarization of developing countries with special reference to latin-american experience, and was awarded a prize for the best thesis of the year.
In early 2004, Julien moved to tropical Koh Phangan, Thailand, and committed himself fully to his yoga practice and a continuous striving for yogic realization. He also became a filmmaker, producing and co-directing Through the Eastern Gate, a poetic documentary about three young Westerners searching for meaning in modern times; the film has so far screened in 11 film festivals on 4 continents, and was picked up by Alive Mind Media/Lorber HT Digital for DVD distribution in late 2008.
In 2008, Julien conceived and initiated the Phangan Film Festival (PFF) - an annual open-air event bringing high-quality independent films from around the world to this beautiful island. Following PFF's successful first two years, the festival was invited to tour and the Samui Film Festival (SFF) was born.
Julien has experienced the transformational power of the Yoga system first-hand and wishes to share this treasure with others. He has informed his own background in traditional yoga with intense study of numerous experts and rare sources, as well as his own deep and committed practice. Julien has been teaching in Europe and Southeast Asia for the better part of the last decade, most notably at the Agama Yoga Thailand headquarters where he serves as a senior resident teacher. He also facilitates transformational workshops around the globe, creating a sacred space for his practical knowledge and experiential wisdom to overflow onto others.
